River Queen

SHIP OVERVIEW

One of the most unique ships cruising Europe's waterways, the River Queen has an exterior resembling the steamships of the 1930s and an elegant Art Deco interior. Decorated in richly textured blue and white fabrics—with marble bathrooms and inspiring artwork—River Queen is a sublime floating hotel designed with your every comfort in mind. River Queen was rated the #1 ship in the entire cruise industry (both river and ocean) in the 2012 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Cruise Poll.

PROS

Excellent food, spacious rooms, really clean, entertainment

Price, but it is on par with comparable cruises

<div>Went on the Christmas Markets cruise with Uniworld. The cruise was really amazing--excellent food, spacious rooms, great views, excellent service, all inclusive pricing. The local tours and lectures on the boat were wonderful. But, the best thing about the cruise was going with the group. We sat together for dinners and after dinner entertainment. The group included many people who liked to dance in the evenings, which was a blast. Everyone was so friendly, and I really enjoyed getting to know the people on the cruise.</div>

JUNE

PROS

Uniworld’s helpful staff always aim to please. Ship’s interior & decor was much better than expected for being around since 1980.

CONS

Felt a bit cramped at times

RECOMMENDED

Yes

Uniworld’s quality of staff & food offerings were excellent. Condition of the ship was suprisingly good for the age of the River Wieem, very well kept! Tour offerings were fair and could use improvement.. We personally don’t enjoy having to follow a guide and our “whispers” on more than 30 minutes. We would prefer a list of some favorite places to find on our own, given a meet back time. We found others that felt the same way. It works for some to stay with the guide, not all. Pre-trip to Luzern, specifically Burgenstock hotel was outstanding. Post trip in Amsterdam was a waste. They put us up in a hotel far away from the city. The 1 hour canal ride was very long & slow.

PROS

Very nice ship, accommodations, crew, meals, itinerary

CONS

Final day travel arrangements

RECOMMENDED

Yes

Had to get up at 4 to depart ship at 6:30 for 1 & 1/2 hr. ride to Zurich. Other passengers were able to remain on board for breakfast, a morning tour of Basel and lunch before departing -- a much more pleasant final day to say the least.

PROS

Excellent service on ship and tour guides were very knowledgeable

CONS

Minor issue of TV with multiple channels had no US news channel, all focused on UK

RECOMMENDED

Yes

At a pre-orientation meeting of our group before the tour, we were told to pack bathing suits. In retrospect, must have been a joke because no pool or hot tub available on ship. We would have planned differently next time and assumed that water, and wind would make temperatures much cooler than forecast, bring more sweaters and light jackets.
