This is a trip which has very little “cruising” so the culinary and excursion experiences are critical. We had not been with Uniworld previously (we have been very pleased with AMA). We must say that Uniworld on the Catherine exceeded expectations. The culinary offerings were excellent. And the standard wine was outstanding - all from the vineyards of Southern France. The “included” tours were quite good with very good to outstanding tour guides. The only “extra” tour we took was to a truffle farm with a demonstration by a truffle dog and wine tasting in Chatenuef du Pape - worth the extra charge. NO trips were cancelled as we recently encountered with Regent and they even added a bus when there was extra interest.CONS
Somewhat limited free excursions. Only one lecture about female impressionists - very interesting, but having the opportunity to learn more of area would have been nice.RECOMMENDED
YesWe would definitely consider Uniworld for another cruise.

YesWe thoroughly enjoyed our recent Uniworld Burgundy & Provence cruise. The south of France is absolutely beautiful. There were only 74 passengers onboard which made the experience even more intimate. The entire Uniworld staff was amazing. No request was too big. Service was first class and the tours were all fantastic. A particular shout out to Ivana (Hotel Manager) and Pierre (Tour Manager) who went above and beyond to make this a special holiday for us.

The crew and the service. Although the ship is beautiful, without a superlative crew it would have only been a ship. The crew was wonderful, dedicated to service and very well trained.CONS

Some of the excursions don’t allow you free timeRECOMMENDED
YesThis was our first river cruise & scheduled tour. I’m afraid the bar has been set very high for all subsequent trips like this we hope to take! Everything about the ship, staff, on board dining and the excursions were excellent. Going on a planned tour doesn’t allow for a lot of free time or individual exploration, however that is the trade off for well thought out tours & great guides. We cannot recommend Uniworld enough to enjoy a river cruise vacation.

YesDespite the raw, rainy weather my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise down the Rhone into Southern France. It was exciting to wake up each morning and look forward to discovering a new town. The excursion guides were excellent! Very knowledgeable and accommodating. They have their own, unique personalities and all had a wonderful sense of humor. Turned the rainy days into a fun adventure. Loved them all! They contributed greatly to our overall enjoyment of this cruise. PS: We are early-to-bed people and did not stay up past dinner for the "entertainment". The one "activity" we had time to enjoy was a lecture on VanGogh and it was excellent. So, don't pay attention to the "one star" ratings in those categories.

more local entertainment on boardRECOMMENDED
YesThe staff really makes this an over the top experience. The ships are beautiful and well appointed. Cabins are a good size and the bathrooms are rather large for a river cruise ship. There is free self-laundry on board and the public areas are comfortable and welcoming. We loved the variety of shore excursions offered. We did walking tours, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and took the bikes out to ride ourselves at a more leisurely pace. The food is delicious and the white glove table service really makes every dinner a special experience.

YesOne very small issue with the ship's bathroom/shower: the soap & lotion dispensers are very difficult to use. They could easily be redesigned & replaced. I suggest that some Uniworld staff try to use them and evaluate.

YesI was on a riverboat cruise with Grand Circle on the Daube River and I would never repeat that experience. The staff had the same view of how thinks should be done, which was going beyond what is expected. The service was outstanding. My favorite tours were the truffle farm, lavender fields, having lunch and wine at the castle and the silk tour. I enjoyed being in my room (CAT 2), even though I was hardly there, because I was having so much fun.
