National Geographic Venture

SHIP OVERVIEW

The National Geographic Venture was launched in 2019 and is the perfect ship to explore Alaska’s Inside Passage and beyond. To build her and her sister ship, National Geographic Quest, it turned to Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, the company that built the beloved National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion—vessels that, with the regular maintenance schedule and refurbishments have been operating successfully for decades. Nichols Brothers has been building boats on beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington since 1964 and cruise is proud that the Venture and Quest will be the first expedition ships of their kind to be purposefully designed and built for expedition travel and made entirely in the U.S. Designed with over 50 years of expedition heritage, National Geographic Venture is able to explore the same remote locations sought out for decades while setting a new standard in comfort and style. She will follow National Geographic Quest in featuring step-out balconies (available in 22 of the 50 spacious cabins), plus 6 sets of connecting cabins for families and groups; a Sun Deck bar, and a designated mudroom for expedition gear.

PROS

Fantastic opportunity to learn and experience unique plants and animals that survive on islands in the Sea of Cortez. The type of cruise would be a unique and exciting experience for adults, children, and families.

CONS

I do not find any cons! Infants may not enjoy the trip, however.

RECOMMENDED

Yes

<div>We loved lectures and direct sight learning about the different geological formations of Baja California and the islands in the Sea of Cortez and Loreto, the original capital of Baja. On board Venture, we observed much wildlife in the sea: whales flip-flopping the flukes high, a school of curious sea lions coming at us, tagging or chasing schools of jumping dolphins. A sheer joy was watching nesting or flying (high in the sky) sea birds (pelicans, tropical birds, albatross, bobbies, and others). There were many unique activities like Zodiac riding to follow or chase whales and dolphins, kayaking and snorkeling in a quiet bay, and hiking to observe land iguanas and desert flowers. We highly recommend this remarkable and joyous weeklong cruise to all age groups except children under three.&nbsp;</div>
