Fishing

The Turks and Caicos is said to have some of the finest fishing grounds in the Caribbean. Notable among potential catches is the highly elusive bonefish, pound for pound considered saltwater fishing’s best ‘fighting fish’. Amanyara works with local guides who know the best spots around the island to test your skills year-round against this wily scrapper. Both light tackle and deep-sea game fishing are also popular as the Atlantic blue marlin runs all year with catches ranging in weight from 45 to 181 kilograms (100 to 400 pounds) or more. Wahoo, tuna and kingfish can also be caught. A number of fishing boats departing from the island’s marinas are available for charter.

Golf

The Providenciales Golf Club is a 35-minute drive from Amanyara and is rated amongst the top 10 courses in the Caribbean. The 18-hole, championship course was designed by Karl Litten and opened for play in 1992. The course is a combination of lush greens and fairways, rugged limestone outcroppings and freshwater lakes. A four-tee position system offers a formidable test for golfers of all skill levels. The Pro Shop provides equipment rental. Professional instruction can also be arranged.

Eco Tours and Adventures

Big Blue Unlimited, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ only eco-adventure company, specializes in exploring and learning about the Turks and Caicos Islands. Take guided kayaking, diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding and kite boarding trips or customize a private boat charter. Guests seeking adventure and culture can explore the beauty and remoteness of North Caicos and Middle Caicos, visit plantation ruins, caves and spectacular beaches on Big Blue’s ‘Heart of the Islands’ eco-tour. Alternatively, the ‘West Caicos Adventures’ includes snorkeling, cliff jumping and picnic lunches on remote beaches and coves. Those looking for active eco-tours should not miss the Kayaking Eco-tour at nearby Frenchman’s Creek or Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve.

Whale Watching

Between the months of February and April migrating humpback whales can be spotted just off the coast of Amanyara as they pass by on their annual 25,000 mile journey between the frigid North Atlantic waters and the Silver Banks of the Dominican Republic where they mate and breed.

Number of Rooms: 40 Pavilions and 20 Villas

Pavilions, Each pavilion at Amanyara is carefully integrated into the lush natural vegetation giving you an ultimately private, Caribbean experience. Whether located on the dramatic iron-shoreline of Amanyara or on the tranquil lakes, each pavilion features a contemporary design with large sliding glass doors on three sides opening to reveal the central king-size bed. An overhanging roof line creates shaded outdoor areas on each pavilion’s three terraces allowing you to enjoy the cooling sea breezes. The terraces feature twin chaise lounges, a sunken table as well as two generous sunning mats allowing for pure relaxation at any time.

Each pavilion is rounded off with a writing desk and chair, a personal bar with refreshments, a flat screen television and DVD/CD player with surround sound. The bathroom area is separated from the main room by a decorative wooden screen and features an elegant, free-standing bathtub with adjacent ottoman. Twin vanities are located on either end along with a separate ‘rain shower’ room, toilet and dressing area.

Villas, Alongside the pavilions, Amanyara offers a select number of private Villas which are available for rent or purchase.

Each Villa is artfully placed on more than half a hectare (1½ acres) of lush terrain and replicates the Amanyara resort as a whole, yet on a more intimate scale. The three, four or five-bedroom Villas either offer dramatic views of the oceanfront, overlooks a tranquil lake or nestled privately in the island vegetation. Internal reflecting ponds provide gentle reflections of the contemporary pavilions comprising each Villa.

The Villas are centered around a black volcanic rock infinity-edged swimming pool surrounded by extensive hardwood decking. The free-standing bedroom pavilions are similar to those of the resort, some with outdoor bathtubs and showers. A majestic living and dining pavilion, outdoor dining sala and fully equipped kitchen round off each Villa.

Select Villas feature a bedroom suitable for up to four children and a nanny, ideal for families. A personal cook and host take care of all guest needs and make each stay truly memorable. Villas are equipped with two four-seater golf buggies, and guests may enjoy access to the resort’s facilities and services.

Every aspect of the operation of the villas is overseen by Aman, including staff management, general maintenance, security, housekeeping, gardening and guest amenities making the experience effortless.

The open setting leads down to a terrace with outdoor seating scattered beneath two large trees. Both areas have sweeping views of the ocean. The second area can be closed to provide air-conditioned dining in the hotter months and also opens to an outdoor balcony that enjoys views across the central reflecting pond. The cuisine focuses on classic Asian and modern Mediterranean dishes with an emphasis on fresh seafood.

The Bar

Beyond the Restaurant and leading to the swimming pool is The Bar. The structure is circular in design and features a soaring ceiling. It includes a central service bar with a number of oversized lounging daybeds on its perimeter. Leading from The Bar is a spacious terrace that provides informal dining throughout the day and larger lounging beds. The Bar is also the ideal venue for sipping exotic fruit cocktails or aperitifs while watching the sun set, or for enjoying an after-dinner cigar or nightcap.

Beach Club

Located on a dune above the southern end of the sweeping 800-metre (2,625-foot) white sand beach, the Beach Club provides a casual dining venue throughout the day. A choice in seating is available from the elevated interior to the bar front, or the lower terrace that leads to an expansive timber deck. Beyond lies a grassy courtyard and the Dive Pavilion. A simple grill menu combines the flavors of Asia with casual beach fare. Regular barbecues are held in the evenings.
